In a statement released in Abuja by the Director of Public Affairs Department, the NCC disclosed that after mediation efforts, MTN’s approval to commence the phased disconnection of Glo, initially granted on January 8, 2024, has been withdrawn. The dispute, which had prompted the NCC to allow MTN to commence disconnection from January 18, 2024, was temporarily halted for 21 days starting from January 17, 2024, as the commission intervened further to facilitate reconciliation between the parties.

To prevent future interconnect indebtedness within the industry, the NCC stated its intention to request relevant records and regular updates from Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) while adopting a transparent approach towards addressing industry indebtedness.

The statement emphasized the importance of strict adherence to the terms and conditions of licenses, particularly those outlined in interconnection agreements, for all MNOs and other licensees within the telecommunications industry.
