According to a statement issued by the State Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, the fire broke out during the early hours of Monday, ravaging a significant portion of the building despite the swift response of the state fire service.

An ongoing investigation seeks to uncover the cause of the inferno.

“At about 05:45 a.m., the Divisional Police headquarters was engulfed by fire, and a major part of the building was burned down completely. This is in spite of prompt response by the State Fire Service,” stated Gumel.

The affected area has been cordoned off to deter intruders and safeguard the arms and ammunition stored within. While the Divisional Police Officer works to salvage essential documents, authorities remain vigilant to prevent further damage.

This incident marks another blow to law enforcement infrastructure in Kano, occurring exactly a month after a similar fire at the Kano Police Command headquarters in Bompai. Though the fire consumed offices dating back to the construction of the Police Command in 1967, the Police Commissioner’s office emerged unscathed.
