Speaking at a media parley in Abuja on Thursday, February 15, the acting Executive Secretary of NUC, Chris Maiyaki, emphasized the commission’s stance in response to reports of private universities allegedly demanding fees in foreign currency.
Addressing concerns raised by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Maiyaki clarified that while some universities may charge dollars for international students, they are not permitted to implement dollarized tuition fees for Nigerian students.
He urged the media to collaborate in spreading awareness, reaffirming that all Nigerian universities must adhere strictly to the regulations prohibiting dollar tuition fees.
Furthermore, Maiyaki assured the public that the NUC remains committed to approving new universities provided they meet the necessary standards and demonstrate sustainability. This commitment underscores the commission’s dedication to enhancing the quality and accessibility of higher education in Nigeria.
