Coalition Urges NLC: Postpone Protest, Acknowledge Government Efforts
Amidst mounting tensions and economic hardships, the Coalition of Katsina Groups for National Unity and Integration has made a fervent plea to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to reconsider its planned protest and strike action…..READ ALSO NLC Advocates For N1 Million Minimum Wage: Here’s Why
In a statement issued by the group’s coordinator, Comrade Hamza Umar Saulawa, the Federal Government’s efforts in tackling Nigeria’s economic challenges were commended. President Bola Tinubu’s administration was lauded for initiatives such as the creation of CNG conversion centers and the establishment of the national minimum wage committee.
Highlighting recent interactions between the government and state governors to address rising living costs and insecurity, Saulawa emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing national concerns.
Recognizing the formidable challenges facing the nation, the coalition urged the NLC to prioritize dialogue over protest, acknowledging the practical limitations in meeting all demands within a short timeframe.
The coalition also cautioned against a repeat of the tragic events witnessed during the #EndSARS protests, urging the labour union to tread cautiously in their actions.
With the NLC’s planned protest slated for the end of February, this plea underscores the critical need for constructive engagement between the government and stakeholders to navigate through the nation’s challenges.
