The transition of leadership took place on Tuesday, as confirmed by Dr. Yahya Disu, the head of Communications at NCDC, marking the handover from Ifedayo Morayo Adetifa.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s announcement on February 16, 2024, solidified Dr. Idris’s appointment, setting the stage for his pivotal role in steering Nigeria’s health security agenda forward.

Acknowledging the remarkable contributions of Dr. Adetifa, the statement underscored the NCDC’s achievements under his stewardship, particularly amidst challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic, Mpox outbreak, Diphtheria epidemic, and other emerging health threats.

With over three decades of extensive experience spanning medical practice, Healthcare Systems Management, Consulting, Pharmaceuticals, and Research, Dr. Idris brings a wealth of expertise to his new position.

His tenure as Permanent Secretary and Commissioner of Health in Lagos State witnessed transformative reforms across various facets of the healthcare sector, including emergency services, human resource development, infrastructural development, primary care system revitalization, healthcare financing, and disease prevention.

Dr. Idris’s exemplary leadership during the Ebola virus outbreak response further attests to his capability in advancing Nigeria’s health security agenda.
