Breaking: One Missing In Lagos Boat Accident Involving 17 Passengers

At least 15 individuals have been successfully rescued from the scene of the accident, according to statements from the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA). However, one person remains missing, and regrettably, one casualty has been confirmed.

Wuraola Alake, from the Public Relations Unit of LASWA, affirmed that rescue efforts are ongoing, with the Search and Rescue Unit of the Lagos State Waterways Authority, along with the Marine Unit of the Nigerian Police Force and other relevant agencies, actively involved in the operation.

“At about 6:50 pm today, Wednesday, February 21, 2024, an Ibeshe-bound passenger ferry named Tee Ben, having departed from Addax jetty, had a collision with an unforeseen shoreline concrete at a construction site around the power line corridor at the Lekki Ikoyi Link Bridge,” Alake stated.

“While about 15 out of the 17 passengers said to be on board this boat have been rescued, with one casualty confirmed, rescue efforts are still ongoing as at the time of writing this statement,” the LASWA representative added.

The incident underscores the importance of safety measures and swift response in maritime operations, as authorities continue their efforts to locate the missing individual and ensure the well-being of all affected passengers.
