Tragic Toll: 8 Lives Lost In Benue Road Mishap

Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing incident which occurred on Tuesday afternoon, describing a head-on collision between two cars traveling in opposite directions near Ngibo village. The impact of the crash resulted in mangled bodies, leaving victims trapped until they were extricated by bystanders and security personnel.

While initial reports suggested 12 individuals were involved in the accident, with 8 fatalities on the scene and 4 succumbing to injuries later, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Steve Ayodele, clarified that the incident involved 10 individuals.

Ayodele attributed the accident to overspeeding, noting that one vehicle attempted to swerve to avoid a pothole, leading to the fatal collision. Among the casualties were four female adults, three male adults, and one female child, with two others sustaining injuries and receiving medical treatment at Kastina-Ala general hospital.

The tragic accident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers posed by reckless driving and the need for heightened road safety measures to prevent further loss of life on Nigerian roads.
