In a significant political move, the Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced its decision to field a gubernatorial candidate from the southern region of the state for the upcoming elections.

Kennedy Peretei, the spokesperson of the state PDP, revealed this pivotal decision following a stakeholders’ meeting held in Akure, the capital city of Ondo State. The move reflects the prevailing political dynamics and aims to align with the popular sentiment within the state.

Peretei emphasized that while the party’s constitution does not explicitly mandate zoning, the decision to focus on the southern zone is a strategic response to the prevailing political climate. “The consensus reached at our meeting underscores the need to respect the prevailing sentiments, especially considering the current political landscape in the state,” Peretei stated.

“With the APC fielding a gubernatorial candidate from the south, it is only logical for the PDP to follow suit and position itself accordingly,” Peretei remarked.
