PDP Decides To Field Governorship Candidate From Ondo’s South Zone
In a significant political move, the Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced its decision to field a gubernatorial candidate from the southern region of the state for the upcoming elections.
Kennedy Peretei, the spokesperson of the state PDP, revealed this pivotal decision following a stakeholders’ meeting held in Akure, the capital city of Ondo State. The move reflects the prevailing political dynamics and aims to align with the popular sentiment within the state.
Peretei emphasized that while the party’s constitution does not explicitly mandate zoning, the decision to focus on the southern zone is a strategic response to the prevailing political climate. He underscored the importance of staying attuned to the sentiments of the electorate and avoiding actions that could run counter to public expectations.
“The consensus reached at our meeting underscores the need to respect the prevailing sentiments, especially considering the current political landscape in the state,” Peretei stated.
He further highlighted the existing gubernatorial representation from the southern region within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasizing the pragmatic approach of the PDP in responding to the emerging political dynamics.
“With the APC fielding a gubernatorial candidate from the south, it is only logical for the PDP to follow suit and position itself accordingly,” Peretei remarked.
The decision to zone the governorship ticket to the south reflects the party’s commitment to inclusivity and strategic positioning ahead of the forthcoming elections. Peretei emphasized the importance of proactive communication with party stakeholders to ensure transparency and unity of purpose as the election season unfolds.
“In aligning with the prevailing sentiment for a southern candidate, we aim to foster unity and cohesion within the party while also bolstering our electoral prospects,” Peretei concluded, highlighting the importance of collective action in achieving the party’s objectives.
