Wike Unveils Plan: FCT Set To Appoint Nine Permanent Secretaries
In a strategic move aimed at bolstering administrative efficiency, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced plans for the appointment of nine Permanent Secretaries to oversee the nine Secretariats of the FCT Administration.
Speaking in Abuja on Monday, Wike revealed this significant development while addressing journalists following his inspection of various road projects in the capital city.
He elaborated that the impending appointments align with the provisions of the FCT Civil Service Commission Act of 2018, which received the stamp of approval from President Bola Tinubu, reflecting the administration’s commitment to its “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Under this initiative, the most senior directors within the FCTA will assume the roles of permanent secretaries for distinct sectors, including Agriculture, Transport and Economic Planning, Revenue Generation and Public Private Partnership, Education, Social Development, Legal Services, Area Council, Health and Environment, and Women Affairs.
Wike emphasized that he had convened meetings with all senior directors within the FCTA to apprise them of these forthcoming changes and emphasized the importance of unwavering dedication to their responsibilities.
“With the implementation of the 2018 Act, as championed by President Tinubu under his Renewed Hope Agenda, the FCT will establish its own Civil Service Commission, complete with a Head of Service and permanent secretaries for each of the nine secretariats,” Wike explained.
However, he cautioned against bureaucratic delays, urging directors to prioritize expeditious handling of files to facilitate seamless workflow and prevent any hindrance to the administration’s agenda.
“In line with our commitment to efficient service delivery, we have mandated that no file should remain stagnant in a director’s office for more than three to four days. This ensures that our operations remain agile and responsive to the needs of our constituents,” Wike asserted.
