Their demonstration aimed to express dissatisfaction with the prolonged delay in the completion of road construction projects by the Federal Government.

According to reports, the protesters used their trucks to block the expressway, disrupting traffic flow along the Okpella-Okene-Abuja highway and affecting vehicles traveling from Benin and other South-South and South-East geopolitical zones to Abuja.

Organized by a group known as the Concerned Citizens of Edo State, the protest sought to draw attention to the deteriorating condition of federal highways in the state, notably the Okene-Auchi-Ekpoma-Benin Expressway.

The resulting traffic jam stretched from Auchi to the Agbede axis of the road, reflecting the widespread impact of the roadblocks on commuters and businesses.

Addressing the crowd, the Chairman of Etsako West Local Government, Marvelous Zibiri, condemned the Federal Government’s lack of commitment and political will to address the road infrastructure challenges. He acknowledged the hardships faced by Nigerians and the economic losses incurred due to the deplorable road conditions.

Zibiri urged the protesters to remain peaceful and law-abiding, emphasizing the importance of avoiding violence or property destruction in their quest for government action.
