Jaafar Jaafar: Bandits Won’t Release Hostages Without Ransom

In a post on his official channel on Sunday, the journalist claimed that no amount of lobbying, persuasion, flattery, charm, or deception would convince the ruthlessly greedy bandits to release hostages without payment of ransom.
Earlier, Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani had announced the release of over 100 Kuriga schoolchildren who were kidnapped by suspected bandits.
The Governor made the announcement on Saturday night, confirming the freedom of the schoolchildren.
Although the abductors had demanded N1 billion as ransom as the sole condition for their release, it remained unclear whether the children were rescued by security operatives or if ransom was paid.
However, Jaafar asserted that President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani’s statements after the “rescue” of the Kuriga schoolchildren hinted that the government paid a substantial amount.
He stated: “The reality is that no amount of lobbying, persuasion, flattery, charm, or deception will convince the ruthlessly greedy bandits to release hostages without payment of ransom.
“From President Tinubu to Governor Uba Sani’s statements after the ‘rescue’ of the Kuriga schoolchildren, it is apparent that the government paid a substantial amount simply to salvage its image, which was held hostage by the worsening insecurity.
“Our leaders rarely take proactive measures to prevent these abductions. In hindsight, the money the government paid the bandits should have been used to resettle villages prone to attack.
“The government is more concerned about its image than the security of lives and property. Whenever you see a government taking rapid action, it is concerned about its political image.”
