The Kwara State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reported that the fatal multiple road traffic crash involving two DAF trucks occurred around 1:02 pm along the Ilorin-Bode Saadu route, resulting in a fiery inferno that engulfed both trucks.
In a statement by Sector Public Education Officer Busari Basambo in Ilorin, it was disclosed that upon receiving the report of the crash around 1:09 pm, FRSC rescue operatives were swiftly mobilized to the scene. They managed to rescue five injured male adults and transported them to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.
Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the trucks, carrying fertilizer and eight passengers, wrongfully attempted to overtake another vehicle without a clear view of the road ahead. In an effort to avoid colliding with an oncoming truck, it lost control and swerved, ultimately colliding with another truck loaded with tomatoes.
“A total of 10 persons were involved in the crash. Five got injured, while four others sadly lost their lives. So far, the fire has been extinguished, and the obstructions cleared to allow the free flow of traffic,” Basambo stated.
