Amidst widespread criticism of the increased tariff coupled with poor power supply nationwide, Akinyosoye made this statement while receiving the state Commissioner for Energy, Engr Abdulazeez Kola Abdulganiy, in his Ilorin office. He urged customers to accept the new tariff adjustment with understanding.

According to Akinyosoye, the new tariff will be immediately applicable to customers with prepaid meters, while those with postpaid meters will experience the adjustment in the next billing cycle. He also explained that current power allocation is constrained due to network issues, resulting in the downgrade of several feeders with low power supply. However, he assured customers that they would be upgraded once power allocation increases.

In response, the state commissioner reiterated the importance of fair billing practices by IBEDC, urging them to charge customers and government-owned facilities, including hospitals, reasonable electricity bills. He emphasized the state government’s commitment to supporting IBEDC’s services by promptly paying electricity bills for government facilities, constructing feeder lines, and providing transformers and electrical materials to enhance community access to regular electricity.
