The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported that the incident occurred on April 22, with efforts to restore power disrupted by the successive tripping of the transmission line. Upon investigation, TCN engineers discovered that towers 288, 289, 290, and 291 were vandalized, with some tower components stolen, exacerbating the situation.

As a result of the outage, bulk power supply to Gombe, Yola, and Jalingo Substations has been disrupted, affecting areas within the Jos and Yola Electricity Distribution Companies’ franchise areas. To alleviate the impact on affected consumers, TCN is working to restore power by backfeeding Gombe through alternative transmission lines while also initiating efforts to reconstruct the vandalized towers.

Residents of Gombe expressed frustration and hardship caused by the blackout. Sharon Habu highlighted the inconvenience of finding places to charge electronic devices, while Haruna Saidu emphasized the increased cost of living due to reliance on alternative power sources like generators. Mariam Simon urged TCN to expedite repairs to alleviate residents’ suffering.

In response, Dr. Elijah Adakole, Head of Communications at Jos Electricity Distribution Company, urged customers to remain patient as TCN works to restore power, assuring that once repairs are completed, normal power transmission will resume.
