Police Officers Arrested With Illicit Drugs Worth ₦20 Million
The Edo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has made a significant breakthrough with the arrest of two suspected police deserters in connection with the possession of illicit drugs valued at ₦20 million. The suspects, identified as Alex Akaeze, 39, and Kadiri Hassan, 45, were apprehended alongside three other individuals…..READ ALSO Nine Arrested Over Killing Of Police Officers In Delta State, IGP Confirms
According to the State Commissioner of Police, CP Funsho Adegboye, the arrests were made by operatives of the Command’s Intelligence and Rapid Response Squad at a Guest House operated by one of the suspects. The raid resulted in the discovery of 1,080 kg of ICE (a hard drug) at the location.
CP Adegboye described Akaeze and Hassan as “fake policemen” who were part of a criminal gang involved in drug trafficking. However, during interrogation, Akaeze claimed to be an Inspector of Police and attempted to justify his actions, stating that he had contacted his former colleagues to assist in an urgent arrest operation.
Hassan Kadiri, another suspect, confessed to joining the Force in 2008 but admitted to not reporting for duty since his transfer earlier in the year. Ovie Samuel, a hotel operator involved in procuring the illegal substance, denied direct involvement in drug dealing but failed to provide a satisfactory explanation when questioned about his knowledge of acquiring ICE.
This development underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking and related criminal activities. The arrests serve as a warning to those involved in such illicit operations and demonstrate the commitment of the police to maintain law and order in the society.
