Dangote Refinery Set To Receive Full Operating License Soon, Says FG

The Federal Government has announced its intention to issue a fully valid operating license to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, boasting a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day. While the refinery has already been granted a pre-commissioning license, Ahmed emphasized that the process for issuing a fully valid operating license to the Dangote refinery is underway. Presently, only three refineries across the country hold valid licenses, highlighting the significance of this impending development.

Ahmed, represented by Ogbugo Ukoha, the Executive Director of Distribution Systems, Storage, and Retailing Infrastructure at NMDPRA, expressed confidence in the imminent issuance of the operating license. He noted the progress made by the Dangote refinery since its inauguration by former President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2023, particularly in supplying Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) to the domestic market.

Additionally, Ahmed disclosed that numerous gas facilities nationwide have already obtained valid licenses, with more currently undergoing processing. The downstream sector also boasts a substantial number of facilities with valid licenses, along with operators holding gas import permits and licenses for depots and coastal vessels.

As of April 30, 2024, NMDPRA has licensed over 9,000 retail outlets, underscoring the regulatory framework’s commitment to ensuring compliance and operational efficiency within the petroleum sector.
