Mohbad’s Widow Blames Father-in-Law For Hasty Burial That Ruined Autopsy

At the latest Coroner’s inquest in Lagos, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Wahab Shittu, representing Mohbad’s family, relayed that pathologist Prof. Sunday Osiyemi stated the actual cause of death couldn’t be ascertained due to decomposition, as the autopsy was performed 21 days after the burial.

In an interview with Sahara Reporters, a tearful Omowunmi expressed her sadness and heartbreak since the pathologist’s testimony. She blamed her father-in-law for ignoring pleas and rushing the burial, preventing a timely autopsy.

“I have been sad and heartbroken since the news about the autopsy,” she said. “When my father-in-law wanted to take him away, I begged him, cried, and pleaded along with others, but he refused. He hurriedly buried my husband without my knowledge.”

Omowunmi recounted how the singer was taken to the morgue without her awareness and buried the next day, even as she learned about it through the media and rushed to the site.

She believes that had Mohbad not been buried so quickly, the autopsy could have revealed the cause of death, particularly noting that a nurse had given him an injection in the presence of multiple people.

“It was my father-in-law and his cohorts who did that to my husband. My husband suffered in life and in death. His body was in the morgue for eight months, and now, the autopsy couldn’t determine the cause because he was buried hurriedly.”

Mohbad, 27, died under controversial circumstances on September 12, 2023, and was buried the next day in Ikorodu. His body was exhumed on September 21 for an autopsy.
