5-Year-Old Dies After Being Strangled By Backyard Swing In Tragic Accident

The incident occurred last week while she was playing in the backyard of her Fort Collins home. Aurora’s great-aunt, Brenda Kennedy, explained to KDVR-TV that Aurora had moved her plastic slide near the swing and somehow became entangled, leading to the strangulation.

Aurora was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and spent several days in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Despite efforts to save her, the family decided to remove her from life support after an MRI confirmed significant brain swelling due to lack of oxygen. Her organs were preserved for two days and donated to other children in need.

Aurora officially passed away on Monday, May 13. The Fort Collins Police Department is not pursuing further investigation, ruling the incident a tragic accident with no probable cause of criminal behavior.
