Gombe Governor and DIG Join Forces to Strengthen Security After Protests

Wake of the recent violent protests on August 1, Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has taken decisive steps to ensure the state remains secure. On Thursday, August 8, 2024, the governor met with the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) for the North-East region, Bala Ciroma, to strategize on enhancing post-protest security measures.

During their private meeting, DIG Ciroma highlighted the importance of assessing the current security landscape and exploring avenues for cooperation between state governments and police commissioners. “It is part of my responsibility to come around to assess the security situation and to seek areas of cooperation between the respective state governments and police commissioners to enhance security in the states across the North-East region,” DIG Ciroma stated.

Although Gombe State has remained relatively calm, both Governor Yahaya and DIG Ciroma agreed on the need to reinforce security protocols. This is crucial not only to prevent future protests from escalating into violence but also to combat other potential criminal activities in the region.

Governor Yahaya expressed his gratitude for DIG Ciroma’s proactive approach, emphasizing the state government’s commitment to working closely with law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and security. “The safety of our citizens is paramount, and we will continue to support the police and other security agencies in their efforts to protect our communities,” the governor affirmed.
