Ministers overseeing portfolios such as Education, Trade and Investment, and Livestock were among the first to submit their documents earlier today. Senator Lado confirmed that the documentation for the nominees has commenced as part of the screening and confirmation procedures.
In a statement, he said, “The nominees have begun submitting the necessary documents as the first step in the screening and confirmation of ministerial candidates. The nominees are expected to be screened and confirmed by the Senate in accordance with Section 147 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (As Amended).”
Naija News reminds readers that President Tinubu has requested the Senate to screen and confirm seven ministerial nominees, a request communicated to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and announced during last Thursday’s plenary session.
The nominees listed in the letter include: Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda (Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction); Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi (Minister of Labour and Employment); Bianca Odinaka Odumegwu-Ojukwu (Minister of State for Foreign Affairs); Dr. Jumoke Oduwole (Minister of Industry, Trade, and Development); Idi Maiha (Minister of Livestock Development); Yusuf Abdullahi Ata (Minister of State for Housing); and Dr. Suwaiba Ahmad (Minister of State for Education).
President Tinubu has urged the Senate to expedite the review and confirmation of these nominees. Following Akpabio’s announcement, the Senate referred the president’s request to the Committee of the Whole for swift consideration.
Akpabio stated, “Distinguished colleagues, the presidential request has been referred to the committee of the whole for prompt consideration.”
