crew members were providing services across various airlines, a practice now deemed illegal.
In a circular dated November 6, 2024, and signed by the Acting Director-General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Najomo, the NCAA highlighted that allowing flight crew to operate across different airlines poses significant safety risks. The circular further explained that pilots’ and crew members’ licenses are operator-specific and based on each airline’s approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
The NCAA emphasized that when crew members work for multiple airlines, it disrupts adherence to these procedures, potentially compromising flight safety. The directive, titled “PROHIBITION OF AD-HOC FLIGHT OPERATIONS FOR MULTIPLE AIRLINES,” also warned that violators would face enforcement actions starting November 11, 2024.
Additionally, the NCAA clarified that simulator renewals will now be linked to the specific airline operator. The regulatory body stressed the importance of compliance with the new directive to ensure the continued safety of the aviation industry.
