Aminu, arrested during the August protests in Kano and other northern states, claimed during a ireporteronline interview that DSS officers subjected him to inhumane treatment. He described beatings with armored cables and other forms of physical abuse, alleging that he and others endured severe brutality at the hands of the security agency.

In a letter dated November 25, 2024, the DSS, through its lawyer Mohammed Sani Ndanusa (SAN), denied the allegations, calling them a deliberate attempt to tarnish the agency’s reputation.

The letter, titled “Re: Allegation of Torture By Department of State Security Officials While Undertaking Custody in Kaduna,” asserted that Aminu’s claims misrepresented the facts and caused significant embarrassment to the DSS, both locally and internationally.

The agency demanded a public retraction and publication of the same in three widely read newspapers, warning that failure to comply would result in legal action to protect its professional integrity.
