Oyetola: Economic Relief Coming Soon Under Tinubu
Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has called on Nigerians to remain patient amid current economic challenges, characterizing the situation as a temporary phase that will soon improve…READ MORE…
Oyetola offered this message during Friday prayers at the Egbeda Central Mosque in Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government Area, Osun State.
Speaking following the two-rakat prayer, the Minister explained that the difficult economic conditions are a reaction to previous government policies. He noted that the introduction of the Bulk Food Purchase policy was a response to inflation that led to surging food prices.
Recently, Oyetola distributed hundreds of bags of fertilizer to local dry farmers and emphasized that the current administration’s policies are supportive of farmers, aiming to ensure a surplus of agricultural products for public consumption. He encouraged both farmers and young people in Nigeria to prioritize agricultural pursuits.
Oyetola also warned the youth against drug addiction, gangsterism, idleness, and laziness, urging them to take advantage of the Student Loan policy set forth by the administration. This initiative offers access to interest-free loans as mandated by the Access to Higher Education Act of 2023 to help them pursue their education.
Reflecting on his own upbringing in the Egbeda community, where he began his elementary education, the former governor highlighted the importance of education in his own achievements.
“I urge you all to be patient with this government. We understand that the current economic situation is challenging, but it is a phase that will soon pass,” he said.
He added, “The current circumstances are not unique to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. Past governments, such as President Shehu Shagari’s, faced similar difficulties, leading to the introduction of the Bulk Food Purchase policy to alleviate the strain.”
Oyetola urged farmers to intensify their agricultural efforts, expressing gratitude for the favorable policies under the present administration. “As someone with farming roots, I value the importance of agriculture,” he stated.
He further encouraged the youth to prioritize their education and utilize the interest-free education loans provided by the government. “Education does not exclude you from farming; in fact, it can enhance your skills,” he emphasized, suggesting that they explore mechanized farming techniques. He urged them to take both education and agriculture seriously while avoiding gang-related activities.
The Chief Imam of Egbeda, Alhaji Hammed Oyetola, reminded the congregation of the transient nature of worldly pursuits and the need to fear God.
“No one can give what Allah withholds, and no one can withhold what Allah grants. This is a fundamental truth that everyone, including leaders and power brokers, must understand,” he stated.
Additionally, Oba Abdur-Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi Odundun IV, Pro-Chancellor and Governing Council Chairman of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), who accompanied the Minister to the mosque, praised the federal government for its commendable policies. He also acknowledged Oyetola’s donation of food items to the community, urging fair distribution to prevent misunderstandings or conflict.
