Segun, alongside Emeka Akwara (19), Samuel Ariori (21), and Lukman Ariori (19), allegedly ordered an Uber from Chevron, Lekki, to Obalende at midnight on January 9. On reaching a secluded area in Obalende, they reportedly stabbed the driver multiple times in the neck, attempting to steal his vehicle. However, the gang failed to escape with the car.

Community Members Intervene

Good Samaritans in the area swiftly detained two suspects, handing them over to police operatives at Lion Building. The other two suspects were later apprehended in the Chevron area. The victim’s body has been moved to the morgue at Mainland Hospital, Yaba.

A Troubling Profile

Describing Segun as the gang’s leader, CP Olanrewaju disclosed, “This young man was sent back from America by his father, but his mother couldn’t manage him either. Society’s failure becomes a burden on the police. Nevertheless, we are committed to justice.”

The police confirmed that all suspects will face criminal prosecution starting Monday.

A Broader Crackdown

Several other suspects were paraded for offenses including kidnapping, cultism, and carjacking. The Commissioner highlighted the success of intelligence-led policing during the yuletide, ensuring a peaceful celebration in Lagos.
