The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has also commended the administration for introducing a minimum pension of ₦32,000, a significant move aimed at alleviating financial hardships faced by retirees.

Speaking on the development, NUP National President Comrade Godwin Abumisi praised Tinubu’s commitment to pensioners’ welfare, calling it “a testament to his dedication to ensuring retirees are supported and their rights are upheld.”

Pensioners’ Relief and Unresolved Concerns

While many pensioners have already received their arrears and adjusted pensions, the NUP has expressed concerns that not all beneficiaries have been paid. According to the union, approximately 70% of pensioners are yet to receive the minimum pension of ₦32,000, despite the government’s pledge.

“This marks the first time pensioners have received an increment without resorting to protests. However, we urge the government to expedite payments to ensure no retiree is left out,” Abumisi stated.

Government Commitment to Retirees

The Tinubu administration’s efforts extend beyond DBS pensioners. Recent payments to retired military personnel, confirmed by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, highlight the government’s commitment to the welfare of all retirees.

The move has been widely applauded as a step in the right direction for addressing economic challenges faced by retired citizens.
