Adedokun highlighted that the BPP has also played a pivotal role in curbing the diversion of public funds, reducing inflated project costs, and freeing up more resources for essential infrastructure projects.

Appearing before the House Committee on Public Procurement to defend the 2025 budget proposal, Adedokun stressed the agency’s commitment to following procurement laws and procedures, which have contributed to enhanced revenue generation by ensuring that bidders are up-to-date with taxes, pensions, and social security payments.

Since its inception in 1999, the BPP’s oversight and price intelligence mechanisms have successfully saved over N1.9 trillion, preventing funds from being misappropriated and ensuring fair pricing on government contracts.

Adedokun also pointed to the increased contributions from entities like the Federal Inland Revenue Service and National Pension Commission, stemming from the enforcement of procurement rules.

Despite these successes, the BPP chief expressed concerns about insufficient funding for the agency, which has hindered its ability to fully carry out its mandate. He called for additional funding in the 2025 budget to address challenges such as lack of office space, operational vehicles, and an e-procurement system.

The committee’s Chairman, Unyime Idem, commended the BPP for transforming Nigeria’s procurement landscape and pledged support to address the agency’s financial shortfall. He emphasized that improving the BPP’s efficiency would boost governance, project management, and value for money across Nigeria’s public sector.

Adedokun’s statement underscores the BPP’s critical role in ensuring transparency and accountability in public procurement processes.
