Moses Paul, an aide to Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has expressed concerns over why some of Obi’s former associates in the banking and business sectors are avoiding him publicly…READ MORE…

Speaking during an interview with Rudolf Okonkwo on 90MinutesAfrica, Paul alleged that fear of retribution from President Bola Tinubu’s administration has caused many of Obi’s friends in these sectors to distance themselves from him.

Paul shared an example from a trip to Rwanda, where he accompanied Obi to a conference attended by prominent figures, including Aliko Dangote and other top Nigerian bankers and business leaders.

He recounted, “During our trip to Kigali, Aliko Dangote and several influential Nigerian businessmen and bankers were present at the conference. Shockingly, some of Peter Obi’s former friends in the banking sector were deliberately avoiding him, likely out of fear that being seen with him might invite retaliation from the Tinubu administration.”

Paul lamented the situation, saying, “It’s unbelievable that in the 21st century, people are afraid to associate with an opposition leader due to fear of government persecution. For a country like Nigeria, which represents the hope of the black race, this is deeply disheartening.”

The incident highlights the growing concerns about political freedom and the impact of perceived government intimidation on personal and professional relationships in Nigeria.
