UK Minister Raises Red Flag Over TikTok Links To Chinese Government
Britain’s technology minister, Peter Kyle, has expressed serious concerns about how Chinese-owned TikTok handles the personal data of millions of UK users, according to an interview with The Guardian published Thursday.

“I am genuinely concerned about TikTok’s ownership structure and its use of data,” Kyle stated. However, he acknowledged the platform’s appeal, describing it as a “desirable product” that allows young people to explore diverse cultures and ideologies.
The United States has already passed laws targeting TikTok, citing fears that the Chinese government could misuse the app for surveillance or influence public opinion through data collection and content manipulation. TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, has been given the option to sell the platform or face a nationwide ban.
In response to Kyle’s remarks, a TikTok spokesperson told AFP:
“In the UK, TikTok operates under a UK-registered company and complies with UK laws and regulations. Our parent company is majority-owned by international investors, predominantly from the United States.
