Abdulraheem noted, “The Lagos State Task Force arrested and charged 12 suspected land grabbers who were reportedly preventing residents from conducting their lawful activities.” He further revealed that the suspects allegedly assaulted Mr. Ashafa, the owner of Prestige Hotel in Ikeja, and were found armed with dangerous weapons at the scene.
During their court appearance, the suspects pleaded not guilty and were granted bail of ₦500,000 each, with two sureties per person. “One surety must be a civil servant not below Level 14, while the other should be either a relative, a clergy member, or a community leader,” Abdulraheem explained. The case has been adjourned until March 26, 2025, for further proceedings.
Following the arraignment, CSP Adetayo Akerele, Chairman of the Task Force, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to eliminating land-grabbing activities in Lagos. “We will not stand by while Lagosians are defrauded of their land or properties,” Akerele warned. He stressed that unchecked land-grabbing could hinder development projects and cheat hardworking citizens out of their rightful properties.
Akerele, who personally oversaw the operation that led to the arrests, assured residents that the state government remains dedicated to safeguarding their rights against illegal land-grabbers.
