Kidnapped Anambra Lawmaker Found Dead, Nine Suspects In Custody

Azuka was kidnapped on December 24, 2024, along Ugwunaobankpa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha. His decomposing body was discovered near the Second Niger Bridge early Thursday morning, sparking outrage across the state.

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, confirmed in a press briefing on Friday that a joint security operation led to the grim discovery of the lawmaker’s remains.

“Following intelligence-driven operations, security operatives swiftly apprehended nine suspects believed to be directly involved in the crime,” Itam disclosed.

During the operation, police recovered two pump-action rifles, and one suspect sustained a gunshot wound to the leg following a shootout with law enforcement officers.

The arrested suspects are:

  1. Ugochukwu Onuorah (30)
  2. Ikemefuna Ossai (20)
  3. Ikenna Orugu (27)
  4. Chibuike Obiefuna (19)
  5. Chinonso Olisa (19)
  6. Chinedu Okoli (21)
  7. David Ojini (25)
  8. Peter Sunday (20) – notably bearing a large chest tattoo that reads ‘No Peace 4 d Government’

Ireporteronline recalls that Azuka’s abduction on Christmas Eve triggered widespread concern and fervent calls for his rescue. Unfortunately, his tragic death has left the community in mourning.
