Bwala Explains Rationale Behind President Tinubu Appointments
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Media and Policy Communication, has clarified the reasoning behind the President’s recent appointments, emphasizing that they are guided by strategic national interests rather than ethnic or tribal bias.
Speaking during an appearance on Sunday Politics on Channels Television, Bwala addressed criticism from Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (Borno South), who had alleged that the President was favoring the Yoruba ethnic group in his selection of aides and officials heading government institutions…READ MORE…
Bwala dismissed these allegations, asserting that President Tinubu’s appointments are carefully considered and aimed at addressing the nation’s most pressing needs. Using the issue of national security as an example, he explained:
“Consider the areas most affected by insecurity—Northern Nigeria. The Chief of Defence Staff, Minister of Defence, and Minister of State for Defence are all from the North. These appointments are strategic. If someone from another region were appointed to manage insecurity in the North, it might be misinterpreted.”
He further noted that appointments made from Southern Nigeria align with the country’s economic priorities, as the South houses Nigeria’s major commercial centers. Bwala stated:
“The commercial heartbeat of the nation lies in the South. It is logical to appoint individuals familiar with the region’s economic dynamics.”
Bwala also highlighted that the current appointments are only a fraction of what is to come, with over 7,000 positions yet to be filled. He assured that future appointments would continue to reflect Nigeria’s diverse population.
“We are still in the early stages. The ambassadorial list has not even been released. There are many more appointments on the way, and they will reflect broad national inclusion,” he concluded.
