All 13 passengers abducted along the Makurdi–Otukpo road in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State have regained their freedom, bringing relief to residents and commuters in the area.

According to Ireporter Online, the victims were freed in the early hours of Sunday following what sources described as a coordinated operation involving security operatives and other key stakeholders. The development has eased widespread concerns over the growing insecurity along the busy Makurdi–Otukpo corridor, a major route frequently used by travellers within the state.

Local sources who confirmed the incident noted that the safe return of the victims represents a significant breakthrough and has helped restore confidence among residents who depend heavily on the road for their daily activities. The route has, in recent times, been plagued by sporadic security challenges, heightening fears among commuters.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from relevant security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force. Details surrounding the circumstances of the abduction and the rescue operation remain unclear, as authorities have yet to disclose further information.

It also remains uncertain whether any arrests were made in connection with the incident or if ransom was paid to secure the victims’ release. The lack of an official statement has left several questions unanswered, even as residents continue to celebrate the safe return of the abducted passengers.

The incident had earlier sparked anxiety across the area, with calls for increased security presence along the Makurdi–Otukpo axis to curb rising threats to travellers.
