According to Ireporter Online, a developing political narrative has emerged in Ogun State as two sons of former President Olusegun Obasanjo have publicly endorsed the 2027 governorship ambition of Senator Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the state.

Dr. Olugbenga Obasanjo and Mr. Olujuwon Obasanjo reportedly visited Senator Adeola at his residence in Abeokuta, where they expressed their support for his aspiration and commended his performance in public service. The lawmaker, popularly known as “Yayi,” disclosed the visit via his verified Facebook page, describing it as an honour and appreciating their endorsement of his governorship bid.

However, the development has further highlighted growing political tensions within the Obasanjo family. The endorsement by the two brothers comes shortly after their sister, former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, exited the APC following disagreements over Adeola’s emergence as the party’s governorship flagbearer. Iyabo had also contested for the ticket but later accused the party of breaching internal agreements and sidelining her in the selection process. She subsequently resigned from the APC in June, citing unfair treatment and lack of respect from party leadership, and is reportedly aligning with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where she is said to have endorsed its governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu.

While the endorsement from Olugbenga and Olujuwon Obasanjo has attracted political attention, there is no indication that former President Olusegun Obasanjo has taken any position on the matter. The former president, who has largely remained distant from the APC, has not publicly supported any candidate in the forthcoming elections. Recent political engagements, including his visit to Kano where he met with Rabiu Kwankwaso of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), have further fueled speculation about his stance ahead of 2027, though details of their discussions were not disclosed.

Senator Adeola, who currently represents Ogun West Senatorial District, previously served as senator for Lagos West and was a member of the House of Representatives before his current tenure.
