TCN Transfers Temporary National Control Centre To NISO

According to TCN Public Affairs General Manager, Ndidi Mbah, the facility will serve as a temporary National Control Centre (NCC) in Abuja until the permanent centre becomes fully operational.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of TCN, Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz—represented by the General Manager, Project Coordination, Engr. Amini Tahir—described the development as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s power sector reform and a new phase in national grid coordination.

He noted that the facility was originally designed to accommodate the newly installed SCADA-EMS and telecommunications systems alongside operational staff, adding that its new role as a temporary control centre would enhance grid monitoring and reliability under NISO’s management.

With the handover, NISO is expected to take full responsibility for operating and maintaining the facility, ensuring improved coordination and efficiency in national grid operations. Abdulaziz emphasized that the collaboration between both institutions is aimed at building a more stable and resilient electricity transmission network for Nigeria.

He also expressed appreciation to the World Bank for its support in the execution of the project, reaffirming TCN’s commitment to continued partnership, innovation, and service delivery in the power sector.

In his response, the Managing Director/CEO of NISO, Engr. Abdu Mohammed Bello, represented by the General Manager, System Planning, Engr. Kabir Adamu, described the handover as a critical step in enhancing the operational capacity of Nigeria’s electricity grid.

He stated that the SCADA-EMS facility would provide the necessary infrastructure for the effective commencement of grid operationalisation, pledging NISO’s commitment to responsible management and sustained collaboration with TCN to advance the country’s power system.

TCN’s Project Manager, Engr. Samuel Fakinlade, added that once the permanent National Control Centre is completed, the equipment and personnel currently housed in the temporary facility will be relocated, and the building returned to TCN.

The facility is equipped with advanced SCADA-EMS and telecommunications systems designed to enable real-time grid monitoring and improved system operations, serving as an interim solution to enhance national power coordination pending the completion of the permanent centre.
