Why Abuja Federal Secretariat Is Under Heavy Security — Police Reveal Reason

According to Ireporter Online, the Nigeria Police Force has clarified the reasons behind the heavy deployment of security personnel and barricades observed across parts of Abuja’s city centre, assuring residents that there is no imminent security threat.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, made this known during a joint press briefing involving security and intelligence agencies at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) in Abuja.

He explained that the increased security presence is a preventive and proactive measure aimed at sustaining law and order following a recent rise in protests within the Federal Capital Territory.

Iniedu stressed that the operation is strictly routine and designed to ensure public safety, especially in sensitive areas that host key government institutions, diplomatic missions, and foreign investors. He further reassured the public that the situation does not warrant panic.

He noted that the deployment of personnel across various parts of the city is part of ongoing efforts to maintain stability and ensure that Abuja remains secure and functional as the nation’s capital.

Speaking further, he stated that the Nigeria Police Force has moved beyond conventional intelligence-led policing to a more collaborative approach involving local communities in security operations, emphasizing that intelligence gathering alone is no longer sufficient to address evolving security challenges.

Also speaking at the briefing, a representative of the National Coordination Office of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), Kingsley Amako, said security agencies are strengthening intelligence gathering and financial monitoring systems to counter terrorism financing and other related threats.

Amako added that although certain operational details cannot be made public for strategic reasons, security agencies are working in close coordination to respond to emerging threats effectively. He also urged members of the press to always seek clarification from relevant authorities to avoid the spread of misinformation.
