Umahi Breaks Silence Over Lady’s Death Inside His Residence

According to reports, Umahi stated that the incident was handled transparently, explaining that the deceased’s family members raised concerns about her condition, broke into her room, and immediately contacted medical personnel in an effort to save her life.

The minister made the clarification on Sunday while inspecting ongoing construction activities along the Ebonyi axis of the Calabar–Ebonyi–Benue–Nasarawa–Abuja superhighway.

Umahi explained that the matter was promptly reported to the police and that an autopsy had been ordered to determine the actual cause of Habila’s death.

He said medical personnel from the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital responded after the family became worried about her condition and took her to the hospital, where efforts to revive her were unsuccessful.

“The family broke the girl’s door, called doctors from DUFUTH, who took her to the hospital and did everything to revive her, but failed. The family reported the matter to the police, so where is the secrecy?” Umahi stated.

The minister maintained that the circumstances surrounding Habila’s death were being investigated by the relevant authorities, adding that the post-mortem examination was approved with the consent of the deceased’s parents.

He noted that the autopsy would provide clarity on the cause of death and help dispel rumours surrounding the incident.

Umahi described Habila as a dedicated staff member of the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital, expressing concern over what he described as false reports circulating about the matter.

The minister further disclosed that he had instructed his legal representatives to take action against individuals spreading what he considered misleading and defamatory claims.

He added that Habila’s parents, who are currently in Ebonyi State, would address journalists on the issue and that the family was also considering legal action against those accused of spreading misinformation about the nurse’s death.
