Man City Join Race To Sign Liverpool Star Cody Gakpo

Manchester City have reportedly entered the race for Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo as Pep Guardiola’s side considers a late move for the Netherlands international before the transfer window closes.

According to reports monitored by Ireporter Online, City have made an initial approach to Gakpo’s representatives to determine the conditions surrounding a possible transfer. However, no formal negotiations have yet taken place between the two Premier League clubs.

The interest comes as City look to strengthen their attacking options following Tottenham’s moves for Savinho and Omar Marmoush. Gakpo’s ability to play both on the left flank and through the centre is believed to have made him an attractive option for Guardiola.

The 26-year-old enjoyed a productive campaign with Liverpool last season, registering nine goals and six assists. He has also started the new season strongly, scoring against Newcastle United at the weekend.

Liverpool, however, are understood to be reluctant to part with the forward unless they receive an exceptional offer. The Reds would also reportedly want to secure another attacking player before considering Gakpo’s departure.

Liverpool are said to be monitoring Barcelona winger Bradley Barcola and Brighton forward Yankuba Minteh as possible attacking reinforcements.

Gakpo’s personal preference could also influence the situation, with the Netherlands star keen to remain an important figure in his club’s plans. A move to Manchester City could nevertheless present an attractive opportunity for the versatile attacker.

Tottenham are also interested in Gakpo and had been monitoring his situation before City’s reported intervention. The late approach from Guardiola’s side could therefore trigger a transfer battle involving two Premier League clubs.

City are expected to decide soon whether to turn their initial enquiry into a formal pursuit as the transfer deadline approaches.
