Troops Smash Boko Haram, ISWAP Camp In Major Operation
Nigerian Army troops under Operation Hadin Kai have dismantled a suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP hideout at Kopre Mountain in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
According to Ireporter Online, the operation was conducted in the early hours of Wednesday by troops working alongside the Tactical Team of the Office of the National Security Adviser after intelligence indicated the presence of terrorists in the mountainous area.
The military disclosed that the troops engaged the terrorists in two separate encounters during the operation, killing more than 21 insurgents. Several others reportedly fled into the surrounding terrain with gunshot wounds.
The troops also destroyed the terrorists’ logistics facilities and recovered several AK-47 rifles, magazines and a quantity of 7.62mm ammunition.
Other items destroyed during the operation included motorcycles, bicycles and jerrycans containing Premium Motor Spirit, which were allegedly part of the terrorists’ logistics supplies.
The Acting Military Information Officer of Headquarters Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, said the operation was also focused on locating and rescuing persons abducted from the Mussa and Lassa axis.
Goni said troops had intensified search operations in the area and would continue combing the surrounding terrain until the victims were located and rescued.
He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to conducting intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling terrorist camps, disrupting their logistics networks and weakening their operational capabilities.
The military command commended the troops and members of the ONSA Tactical Team for their coordination, courage and professionalism during the operation.
It said the operation demonstrated the capability of Nigerian security forces to conduct effective combat missions in challenging mountainous terrain while restricting the movement and activities of terrorist groups.
The military further assured residents that operations against Boko Haram and ISWAP would continue across the North-East, with security forces maintaining pressure on terrorist formations and their support networks.
