Victor Muñoz Rescues Liverpool In Dramatic Anfield Clash

Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw by Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday after Victor Muñoz scored late on his full debut to rescue a point for the hosts.

According to Ireporter Online, Forest took a deserved lead in the 24th minute when Dan Ndoye converted Morgan Gibbs-White’s pass. A long ball exposed the Liverpool defence, allowing Ndoye to beat goalkeeper Alisson Becker with a composed finish.

The hosts struggled to break through Forest’s organised defence and thought they had found an equaliser through Florian Wirtz, but the effort was ruled out for offside. Forest nearly doubled their advantage before the interval, with Alisson producing an important save to divert Igor Jesus’ effort onto the crossbar.

Liverpool returned from the break with greater attacking intent and eventually drew level in the 60th minute. Cody Gakpo created space before sending a low delivery into the box, where Alexander Isak was on hand to tap the ball into an empty net.

The Reds appeared to be gaining control of the contest, but Forest regained the lead 10 minutes later following a controversial penalty decision. Alisson rushed out to challenge Neco Williams after a quick throw-in involving Liam Delap and was adjudged to have brought down the Forest player inside the area.

Despite strong protests from Liverpool’s players, referee Samuel Barrott awarded the penalty. Gibbs-White made no mistake from the spot, sending Alisson the wrong way to put Forest back in front.

Liverpool continued to push forward in search of another equaliser and were rewarded in the 82nd minute. Muñoz connected with a pass from Wirtz before unleashing a powerful effort that struck the underside of the crossbar and crossed the line.

The hosts pressed for a winning goal during the closing stages, but Forest defended resolutely to secure a valuable point away from home.

The draw leaves Liverpool still searching for their first Premier League victory under Andoni Iraola after sharing the points in their opening two league fixtures. Forest, meanwhile, responded strongly to their opening-day defeat to Leeds United with an impressive performance at Anfield.
