Phillips, who recently joined West Ham on loan from Manchester City, has spoken out against Guardiola’s remarks about his fitness.
Despite his £45 million transfer from Leeds in July 2022, Phillips only made 31 appearances under Guardiola’s management.
In December, Guardiola publicly questioned Phillips’ fitness, suggesting that the midfielder was overweight and not training adequately.
Phillips previously voiced his dissatisfaction with Guardiola’s comments in an interview with the BBC. In a recent statement shared by football expert Fabrizio Romano, Phillips reiterated his displeasure, particularly highlighting the impact on his family, especially his mother.
“When Pep came out and said I was overweight, he was right to do so, but there are different ways to go about it,” Phillips stated. “I did not disagree but it took a big knock on my confidence. My family were not happy about it, either. Especially my mum.”
