This tragic incident unfolded within the past 24 hours, following previous attacks by rival militia groups on the Gbagir community in Ukum LG, which resulted in the loss of at least 40 lives.
According to reports, the recent attack occurred on Thursday, with bandits wreaking havoc across approximately 11 communities, engaging in a killing spree.
The state’s deputy governor, Sam Ode, along with security chiefs, visited the area for an on-the-spot assessment in response to the situation.
The Benue State Command Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, assured that details about the incident would be provided after Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Adesina, who had gone to the troubled area, returned.
Meanwhile, the Senate recently resolved that the leadership of the National Assembly will hold a meeting with President Bola Tinubu concerning the escalating insecurity in the country.
This decision followed a motion raised by Senator Emmanuel Udende regarding the killing of over 50 people in fresh attacks in at least five Benue State communities by terrorists disguised as herdsmen.
