2023: Why Atiku Supported Muslim-Muslim Ticket In 1993 – Reno Omokri

Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday admitted that the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar supported the Muslim-Muslim ticket in 1993.

The human rights activist made the revelation after reading a book written by the former Vice President which revealed that Atiku have supported the Abiola-Kingibe ticket during the 1993 presidential election.

It could be recalled that Atiku had last weekend in an interview with Arise Television claimed that he refused to pick the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu as his running mate in 2007 on the platform of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) because he is against a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

The statement, however, generated a lot of reactions as the former Governor of Lagos State denied Atiku’s comment, stating categorically that it was the other way round that Atiku was the one who begged him to be his running mate and he declined.

Reacting to the book titled, ‘My Life’ by Atiku which shows that the presidential candidate supported the presidential ambition of MKO Abiola for a vice-presidential candidate slot, Omokri, however, said Atiku may have supported the Abiola-Kingibe ticket in 1993 because there was no terrorism and banditry in the country.

The former Presidential aide added that there was no reason to doubt the Muslim-Muslim ticket in 1993, admitting that he also supported Abiola to emerge as President.

Taking to his Twitter handle, he wrote: “Yes, Atiku may have supported Abiola-Kingibe Muslim-Muslim ticket in 1993, but this is 2023. In 1993, there was no Boko Haram or ISWAP.

“We did not have bandits. There was no Hisbah in Kano. Muslims were not heading all 3 arms of government. Even me, I supported MKO!”
