2027: Akpabio Reveals What Tinubu’s Second Term Will Bring Nigerians

Published

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu would operate a unity government if he secures re-election in the 2027 presidential election, pointing to the inclusion of opposition figures in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council as an indication of his political vision.

According to reports monitored by Ireporter Online, Akpabio made the remarks while responding to Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, who had described the composition of the campaign council as a possible indication of what Nigerians could expect from Tinubu’s second term.

Akpabio described the development as historic, arguing that since Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999, no sitting president had assembled a presidential campaign council involving members of multiple political parties on such a scale.

He said the approach reflected an understanding of inclusive governance that went beyond infrastructure development, revenue allocation and economic reforms to include cooperation among political actors with different affiliations.

According to the Senate President, the proposed unity government would be built around a shared commitment to national development, with the cross-party composition of the campaign council serving as an example of that ambition.

Akpabio also said the development could provide a model for other African countries, while congratulating Tinubu, APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda and leaders of the political parties participating in the campaign council.

Among the political figures he acknowledged were Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike.

Akpabio particularly highlighted Soludo’s economic expertise and experience in public service, expressing hope that his contributions and those of other participating leaders could help improve governance and national development.

He maintained that cooperation across party lines was a positive direction for Nigeria’s democracy, presenting the campaign council’s composition as a sign of the unity he believes could characterise Tinubu’s administration if re-elected in 2027.

However, Tinubu’s return to office remains subject to the outcome of the 2027 presidential election, while the Senate President’s remarks reflect his expectations of what a second term could look like.
