2027: Six Political Parties Gather In Kaduna To Challenge APC

The summit, themed “Solid Political Party Structure Critical to the Sustainability of the Democratic Process,” was organized by the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Participants included the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the KOWA Party, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), and the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP).

Summit chairman Lawal Nalado lamented the “unbearable hardship” experienced by Nigerians, emphasizing that the meeting aimed to address the nation’s numerous challenges and chart a way forward. Nalado dismissed rumors that the summit was intended to form a merger or coalition, instead highlighting the need for opposition parties to mobilize grassroots voters through political education, encouraging them to vote based on candidates’ merits rather than money, religion, or ethnicity.

PRP National Chairman Falalu Bello, represented by Prof. Sule Muhammad, underscored the importance of mass voter mobilization, noting that presenting credible candidates alone is insufficient for electoral victory. Bello identified inadequate resources, lack of internal democracy, transparency issues, and interference from the ruling party as significant obstacles for opposition parties.

Ahmed Tujjani, ADC and IPAC Kaduna State chairman, stated that the summit aimed to address socio-economic and political issues and develop realistic solutions. He clarified, “This is not a gathering for a merger or coalition ahead of 2027 but rather a summit to discuss our common problems and suggest solutions.”

The summit concluded with plans to release a communique summarizing their discussions and outlining a mini-working document for addressing challenges ahead of the 2027 elections.
