2027: Tinubu Appoints Matawalle To APC Campaign Security Team

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, as Deputy Director, Security and Intelligence 1, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election.

According to IREPORTERONLINE, the appointment places Matawalle at the centre of the campaign’s security and intelligence operations, with responsibility for coordinating security arrangements for campaign activities across the country.

In his new role, the former Zamfara State governor is expected to oversee measures aimed at protecting the presidential candidate, campaign officials, supporters and other stakeholders during political activities.

He will also coordinate intelligence gathering, risk assessments and threat-mitigation strategies in collaboration with relevant security agencies.

Matawalle is expected to facilitate inter-agency cooperation and engage traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, women organisations and other stakeholders as part of efforts to strengthen the campaign’s security framework.

The Ministry of Defence said the appointment reflected Tinubu’s confidence in Matawalle’s experience in public service, security management and political mobilisation.

The minister has previously been involved in engagements with security agencies and initiatives focused on troops’ welfare, infrastructure and the implementation of the administration’s security agenda.

His grassroots political network and experience as a former governor and serving minister were also cited as factors that could assist him in handling the sensitive responsibilities attached to the position.

Reacting to the appointment, Matawalle expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the APC leadership for the confidence reposed in him.

He pledged to use his experience to support a peaceful, coordinated and successful campaign, adding that the APC would take the achievements of the Renewed Hope administration to Nigerians across the country.
