This was disclosed, yesterday, during a press conference organised by the Projects Coordinator in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.

The Kebbi State Deputy Governor and Chairman, State Steering Committee, Col. Samaila Yombe Dabai (rtd) said the programme was a flagship project of the Federal Government, which was implemented through the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, with World Bank’s support. He said the objective was to improve women’s livelihoods in targeted areas.

He explained that the Nigeria for Women Projects used community-based approaches of Women Affinity Groups (WAGs), as a platform for women economic empowerment.

Dabai said the government would ensure that economically active women from Arugungu, Ngaski and Maiyama, aged 18 and above, would be mobilised into WAGs.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development Hajiya Aishatu Maikurata, thanked the Kebbi State Governor for the support.
