A Nation In Mourning: Shettima Expresses Outrage Over Niger Tanker Tragedy
Vice President Kashim Shettima has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic tanker explosion at Dikko Junction, Niger State, which claimed numerous lives.
Reports from Naija News confirm that the devastating incident led to the deaths of approximately 80 individuals who were scooping fuel from an overturned petrol tanker in the Suleja local government area.
In a statement released on Saturday by his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President urged Nigerians to prioritize safety and avoid collecting fuel from fallen tankers to prevent similar tragedies.
Shettima extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, as well as to the government and people of Niger State. He reiterated the federal government’s resolve to implement measures to avert future occurrences.
“The Vice President’s message comes after President Bola Tinubu’s directive to provide immediate medical aid to survivors and strengthen safety protocols on major highways.
“This tragic event, involving a tanker traveling from Kaduna to Gwagwalada, has spurred the federal government to initiate a thorough review of transportation safety measures. Additionally, the National Orientation Agency has been tasked with launching an urgent nationwide campaign to educate citizens on the dangers of approaching accident sites involving fuel-laden vehicles,” the statement added.
The federal government reassured the nation of its commitment to preventing further loss of lives due to such avoidable disasters.
