of the proposed allocations, outlined in the 2025 Appropriation Bill submitted to the National Assembly, includes the ministries of Police Affairs, Interior, Defence, Finance, Power, Works, and Budget and Economic Planning.

Other ministries receiving significant allocations are those of the Niger Delta, Education, and Health.

The Ministry of Finance tops the list with the highest allocation of N17.52 trillion, mostly earmarked for salaries. This represents an increase of 87.78 percent, or N8.19 trillion, compared to the N9.33 trillion allocated in 2023.

Following closely is the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, which received a boost of N2.33 trillion, an increase of 52.35 percent, bringing its total to N6.78 trillion in the 2025 budget.

The Ministry of Defence ranks third with an appropriation of N2.92 trillion, reflecting an increase of N1.34 trillion, or 84.81 percent. The Ministry of Interior has been allocated N1.13 trillion, up from N461 billion in 2024.

In addition, the Ministry of Power received a substantial 510.46 percent increase to N2.1 trillion, up from N344 billion in 2024, while the Ministry of Works is set to receive N1.14 trillion, rising from N657.23 billion.

Similarly, the Ministry of the Niger Delta has an allocation of N2.23 trillion, while the Ministry of Education has N2.52 trillion, and the Ministry of Health is set to receive N1.91 trillion.

The Senate and the House of Representatives both passed the N49.7 trillion ‘Restoration’ 2025 budget for a second reading last Thursday. This budget, presented by President Bola Tinubu, was approved after extensive discussions on its general principles, with lawmakers praising the President for his intentions for the nation.

The Senate subsequently passed the budget and referred it to the Committee on Appropriations after a voice vote conducted by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The budget carries a revenue projection of N34.82 trillion to support the total expenditure of N47.9 trillion, resulting in a deficit of N13 trillion.
