Abubakar Momoh’s Leadership Delivers Landmark Projects Across Nigeria’s Regions

Under the steady leadership of Hon. Engr. Abubakar Momoh FNSE, who first served as Minister of Niger Delta Development before the ministry was expanded and renamed the Ministry of Regional Development (MRD), the ministry  has emerged as a beacon of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda — delivering remarkable strides in infrastructure, housing, environmental management, empowerment, and human capital development across Nigeria.

Roads, Bridges, and Connectivity

From the Niger Delta to the North-East, the Ministry has delivered critical infrastructure that connects communities and enhances commerce. Completed projects include the Gberegolor–Ogriagbene Road in Delta State, the Okpuala–Iguruta Road in Imo, the Oron Road in Edo, and a structural steel link bridge in Imo State. The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), supervised by the Ministry, has also completed the 25.3km Ogbia–Nembe Road in Bayelsa with seven bridges and 53 culverts, the Benin–Abraka Road Phase I, and multiple road networks in Abia, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers States.

Water, Power, and Electrification

The Ministry has expanded access to potable water through projects in Delta, Imo, Akwa Ibom, and Ondo States. In the area of power, rural electrification has been boosted with the installation of transformers and over 257 solar streetlights in communities across Edo, Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom States. The NDDC has complemented these efforts by installing over 104,000 solar streetlights under its Light Up the Niger Delta Programme, alongside commissioning substations in Okitipupa (Ondo) and Amufi (Edo).

Housing and Resettlement

In the North-East, the North East Development Commission (NEDC) has delivered over 736 mass housing units, resettling families displaced by insurgency in Borno, Yobe, and Taraba States. These estates, equipped with schools, health centres, and police posts, are restoring dignity and stability to thousands who once lived in displacement.

Education and Health

The Ministry’s quick-win projects include ICT skill centres, classroom blocks, and maternal health facilities in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Imo States. The NEDC has also upgraded the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi’s mechanical engineering complex, built mega schools in Yobe and Taraba States, and provided modern laboratories and ICT centres across the region. In health, the Ministry has commissioned health centres in Imo and Cross River, conducted free medical outreaches treating over 32,000 patients, while the NEDC has established a molecular lab in Adamawa and upgraded the Central Medical Store in Maiduguri.

Environmental Protection

To combat land degradation and erosion, the Ministry has executed landmark projects including riverbank protection in Cross River, erosion control in Abia and Calabar, canalization in Bayelsa, and reclamation works in Delta State. These interventions safeguard communities from flooding and enhance agricultural productivity.

Empowerment and Human Capital Development

Under Momoh’s leadership, the Ministry has distributed tillers, tractors, fish smoking kilns, sewing machines, clean stoves, tricycles, and motorbikes to farmers and entrepreneurs. It has also established mini agro-processing plants in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Abia States, trained women and youths in soap and disinfectant production, and empowered over 294 beneficiaries with ₦250,000 each as seed capital.

Renewed Hope in Action

These achievements are not just statistics — they are the embodiment of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in action. Families displaced by insurgency are being resettled, communities once cut off are now connected by new roads, and rural villages are experiencing light and clean water for the first time.

With Engr. Abubakar Momoh at the helm, the Ministry of Regional Development has proven that effective leadership, accountability, and vision can transform entire regions, laying down a template for inclusive growth and national unity.
